#01 - Air
What they didn't understand was that Felix Walken needed Chane like everyone needed air; with her absence, Felix was dead and gone, and only Rail Tracer remained.

#02 - Apples
He caught sight of Riku bustling from the kitchen, teeth clenched around an apple, and Hannibal took pause for a moment, before a slow smile began.

#03 - Beginning
They all shared puzzled, occasionally frustrated and frightened glances, as they stepped off the train and inhaled dust and confusion; no one had known then that the beginning would also be the end, in more ways than one.

#04 - Bugs
Nui really didn't hate butterflies; she could appreciate the vivid colors well enough, and even more so when she giddily tore their wings off to compare color patterns in the tailor's.

#05 - Coffee
During the few days following Annabeth's death, Percy choked coffee down in the hopes that it would help keep him going; in a sense, it did, but it made nothing else feel even remotely better.

#06 - Dark
It was dark, so dark, and Shinnosuke thought it was unfair-- darkness meant being alone, but no one else experienced that same darkness he did, so he didn't get that peace of mind anyway.

#07 - Despair
"Walk tall," Noct had told him, and Barnham thought that out of every order he had ever been given and followed through on, that was perhaps the hardest after everything.

#08 - Doors
It was almost cute, the Sheriff mused, that they thought they were safe behind doors-- when week after week, as Simon first demonstrated, those doors did nothing to protect them.

#09 - Drink
It was no secret that Sara could be found in the saloon, offering a drink to most legal company. But when she was alone, it was then that she was joined by several other glasses that remained untouched-- whiskey, some sort of Italian wine, a glass of juice.

#10 - Duty
Noctis had a duty as a future king, and Milla had a duty as Lord of Spirits, and neither one would ever truly forget that... and yet, they sought solace in those moments where Milla could comb her fingers through his hair, remarking about the marvel of gel products, and Noctis could venture a light kiss on her forehead.

#11 - Earth
There were so many worlds out there, and Milla had known there were at least two, but it was truly fascinating, and could not actually prevent her from asking Percy if there was an Earth, then was there also not a Wind, a Water, and a Fire?

#12 - End
It ended with home-- whether it was the home they had left, or the home they had opted to find a new place in, but those who boarded the train and settled in did so without protest and a sense of exhausted acceptance.

#13 - Fall
So many times had Ezio fallen, controlled and at ease, but as he stood before those who could now only watch, he knew this time... he would not be getting up with a breezy laugh.

#14 - Fire
She screamed, of course, although Russell didn't linger to listen-- he tossed another match down, because the noise hurt his ears, wondering if he was imagining the cries of siblings and the toll of a burning bell, and went back to bed.

#15 - Flexible
Between listening to Claire gleefully discuss the flexibility of his wife until Chane shot him a glare and making a mild suggestion to Milla to not bring up flexibility to Noctis until he was ready to hear about some of the racier novels she'd read-- Sara almost screamed when Russell settled in beside her and asked, "Why is flexibility so important to everyone?"

#16 - Flying
Lust couldn't really put a finger on just how it felt, to have Eliot by her side, to feel as though she was finally truly accepted-- like flying, perhaps, except that she never really felt like landing.

#17 - Food
At the time, Sara didn't quite understand why a delicious meal with a name she couldn't pronounce with Hannibal and Will somehow paled in comparison to perching on the kitchen counter with Percy, munching on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and remembering what it was like to be lazy.

#18 - Foot
Realizing that she'd suggested someone to investigate and they'd then proceeded to die for the third week in a row made Sara turn to Yuna and mutter, "You want to pick this week before I stick my foot in my mouth and inadvertently kill like five people?"

#19 - Grave
Annabeth had been half-concerned that she'd wake up in the grave, after time spent in the Underworld-- so waking up in a comfy, plush bed instead of opening her eyes to dirt and darkness, was a welcome relief.

#20 - Green
"I don't know what 'Soylent Green' is," Sara remarked, plucking the newest find from Shinnosuke and placing it back on the shelf, "but somehow, I don't think you'll enjoy it very much."

#21 - Head
Three heads are better than one, was Percy's slightly hysterical thought in the middle of the night, jolting awake in a room where neither Harry nor his head were there-- and thankfully, not Ana's or Lust's, either-- Four heads, he amended, remembering Riku belatedly and was additionally thankful that no one could hear what followed next.

#22 - Hollow
It had almost come as a relief that intense bursts of emotion were slow to come, if at all, that he had finally reached that point where Barnham could say that breaking would have been wonderful it meant not having to feel anymore-- but as he boarded the train and people came forward and Sara's hands closed over his own... he still felt the very strong urge to cry.

#23 - Honor
Milla faced him with pride blazing in her eyes, and Damian nodded once, respectfully-- if she was going to die, it was going to be on her terms, which was the only thing he had wanted now that his other hopes had been completely dashed.

#24 - Hope
Even dead, Yuna never once stopped trying to console and reassure her friends, to tell them not to give up hope-- and because of it, she finally got to see them smile.

#25 - Light
No matter how many times Noctis teared up, how slumped his shoulders became, and how much he bit his lip, he never once lost the light in his eyes-- not even at the moment of his death, and Barnham admired him all the more for it.

#26 - Lost
Damian had to take a deep, careful breath every time one of the dogs approached him-- Pluto, wondering where Xion was, and Winston, whining anxiously as Will failed to return; it took sitting in a pile of ownerless dogs for a good hour to settle his thoughts.

#27 - Metal
Ash didn't want to be flesh and blood, didn't want to feel, didn't want to care-- Noct ruined two of those things, so in Ash's opinion, the least he could have done in return was let him harbor himself within his car.

#28 - New
What was new to Milla Maxwell meant that it absolutely had to be thoroughly investigated in order to be fully understood and enjoyed, and when the new was Noctis tentatively kissing her for the first time, it took approximately three hours of enthusiastic experimentation until she was ready to let him breathe normally again.

#29 - Old
She watched them, over the weeks, the young and energetic and determined slowly age into tired, weary souls-- and Papika took a deep breath, just as tired, and smiled as brightly as she could.

#30 - Peace
Peace was Annabeth threatening violence while still being a warm presence at his side, and Percy smiled to himself and thought that at some point, he'd have to work out wedding invitations to half the people on the train but... well, that could come later.

#31 - Poison
Like a fairy tale, to make her sleep, forever; Lust slipping off the stool beside her as Chane closed her eyes briefly in some manner of tired contemplation, Xion in a wilted ball on the floor as Barnham exhaled slowly (the air itself would not tremble, he refused to permit it), Papika warm in Damian's arms, but as the second dose permeated her body, that wouldn't last long at all.

#32 - Pretty
He'd only meant to comfort her and to put an end to her drunken tirade about there never being any good men and what she was doing wrong, but apparently stammering out that she was pleasing to the eye with immeasurable assets (and he did mean her personality, truly) was so hilarious that Sara hadn't stopped laughing into the bar counter a good three minutes later and Barnham regretted not having simply left the moment she began.

#33 - Rain
The first thing Chane did upon returning home was to immediately step out into a thunderstorm. The air in the town had been dry and bitter and hard to breathe, and this felt like freedom-- and a bit like embarrassment when Claire took it upon himself to lead her into a dance.

34 - Regret
It tinged nearly all of them, except those who no longer knew how to regret, and those who had done nothing to regret-- and still, so many chose to remember in the end.

#35 - Roses
Roses, as Yuna explained, probably had the most diverse meanings: true love, first love, a budding love, friendship, the end of everything-- and Sara listened, glanced at Hal, and began to write.

#36 - Secret
Sei kept it carefully guarded, took her baths with extreme caution, and did everything she could to keep her true gender a secret-- while everyone around her hid bodies, guilt, identities.

#37 - Snakes
The nightmares never really ended for Jason, and gained the addition of sly, slithering creatures who wanted to steal everything from him; it was then an odd sort of relief to wake up and know that his screaming would never cause alarm for anyone else.

#38 - Snow
It was something Xion wondered about, if she'd ever get the chance to experience it-- and while Percy had talked to her about snow angels and wintry days spent warm inside, Shinnosuke had blithely spoken about frostbite and hypothermia and black ice until Natalie had kicked him in the back of the knees with no remorse whatsoever.

#39 - Solid
Sara was solid when she kissed Barnham as though she instinctively understood that they needed something to grasp that night, and she was solid when she slumped into lifelessness against him-- and so beautifully solid when she pulled him into a one-armed hug and told him that she wasn't going anywhere anymore.

#40 - Spring
Spring to Yuna meant flowers and warmth and new life, and spring to Sara meant flowers and warmth and plunging students into the darkest depths of a schoolhouse dungeon, and she was too busy sighing nostalgically to notice Yuna staring at her in slight horror.

#41 - Stable
The horses were always happy to see him, shoving soft muzzles against his open palm, and Percy could only wish they could still speak to him; he needed the encouragement.

#42 - Strange
The majority of those who had already died were glued to the television, watching Damian Wayne stumble in with a hole in his forehead, and as several of them gasped in horror, Shinnosuke turned to Eliot and said thoughtfully, "Do you think you'd still have the shovel in you if they chose you instead?"

#43 - Summer
"Seaside was like summer," Russell explained to a very baffled Sara, "and then I ruined a piece of kelp's life and was punished for my sins, and things got kind of uncomfortable after that."

#44 - Taboo
It was taboo, Will knew they would have said, had they known that Hannibal was not as elegant and gentle as they seemed to think-- but the food melted on his tongue nonetheless and he could only smile.

#45 - Ugly
Russell knew humanity was ugly, that no one person was perfect, no matter how kind they were, and so he could remain jaded-- but Barnham continued to encourage him to live, and even as she placed the gun barrel between his eyes, Sara's hand never once slipped from his head as a form of steadying warmth... and Russell sighed and thought that maybe there was more to be valued than he first thought.

#46 - War
The civil war was over, but the battle had just begun, and Sara took to the fray with two brand new bracers in tow; it wasn't going to be easy, she knew, but she had a new family to protect now, and that made her even stronger.

#47 - Water
It was, Natalie thought, kind of stupidly ironic how so many important things - and regrets - had happened near the lake and how even when she stood by one with clear water and those she trusted beside her, she couldn't entirely shake off the chill.

#48 - Welcome
When Barnham opened his eyes, it was to see Sara across from him, hand still firmly clutching his-- and when she cracked open an eye and whispered "Welcome back," he didn't think he could be faulted for pulling her against his chest.

#49 - Winter
The bite of winter turned out to be nothing compared to the chill that ran through Jason when Will walked in and singlehandedly ruined his day.

#50 - Wood
Hal smiled to himself as the last person disembarked-- and reached into his pocket for his recently-started carving, an exotic-looking flower.
